Shoppers help bag funds for charity

12th Aug 2010
The Light retail and leisure scheme plans to help raise funds for Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, by asking its’ shoppers to design its new re-usable shopping bag.

The Light has worked with Meanwood Valley Farm for the past two years, as part of the centres green initiative ‘Give Recycling The Green Light.’ To date the centre has raised almost £1000, through various charity fund-raising events including, face-painting, an on-line auction to win a signed England cricket bat and selling a re-usable shopping bag in stores throughout the centre.

To help support the farm again this year and demonstrate The Light’s commitment to recycling the centre is now on a mission to encourage its shoppers to design the front of its new re-usable shopping bag. The winner will receive £200 to spend at The Light and the winning bag will be launched at ‘Leeds Loves Shopping’ (14-24 October) when it will be sold throughout the centre for £1. All money raised will be used to help the farm purchase a ride on mower to use in their new sustainable woodland.

Stephanie James (Marketing Manager at The Light) said “We are proud to support Meanwood farm and their commendable community projects. We now hope to find local design talent who can help The Light create a shopping bag, which shoppers will want to buy in the hope of raising even more funds for the farm.”
